President Prabowo Subianto has showcased a series of major steps that are priorities for his administration to transform Indonesia. Prabowo joked that these transformative measures constitute ‘Marhaenism’ and said it would be difficult for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) not to support his government.

He made the remarks during the submission of the 2027 State Budget Draft (RAPBN) and Financial Note at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026). President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka attended the event.

Prabowo initially outlined a number of major steps before the members of the House. The programmes being pushed include improving community health centres (Puskesmas), upgrading regional public hospitals (RSUD) and schools, and establishing a strategic mineral and commodity exchange.

‘Today I will use this opportunity to speak before this honourable assembly to convey at least 10 major steps that will be the next stage of Indonesia’s transformation,’ Prabowo said.

Furthermore, Prabowo confirmed that Indonesia will have a Strategic Mineral and Commodity Exchange. He is targeting Indonesia to have its own commodity exchange by 1 January 2027.

‘We will soon operationalise the mineral exchange under the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and I am confident the OJK is working well. These are the women who are mastering our economy now. Our plan, with the support of the DPR, is that by 1 January 2027 we will have our own commodity exchange,’ he stated.

Prabowo then expressed appreciation for the synergy between the government and the DPR in supporting the nation’s progress agenda. He noted that the government and the DPR have been working quickly to continuously meet the people’s needs.

‘I am grateful that there is now very synergistic cooperation between the government and the DPR. This does not mean there is no democracy; we must have democracy, we must be criticised, but we must work fast for our people, and I think this has been delivered by the current DPR RI. I thank you,’ he said.

Prabowo also specifically appreciated PDIP. He made a quip that his policy model is not ‘Prabowonomics’, but rather ‘Marhaenism’, which is synonymous with Sukarno, making PDIP’s support for him inevitable.

‘And special thanks once again to PDIP. Actually, this is not Prabowonomics, this is Marhaenism. It is difficult for PDIP not to support this,’ Prabowo said, met with a roar of applause.

For context, Marhaenism is a socio-political ideology coined by Sukarno. Marhaenism aims to liberate the common people from the oppression of capitalism, imperialism, and feudalism.
