Prabowo Calls for Research-Industry Collaboration to Accelerate Technology
The government is prioritising stronger cooperation between research institutions, universities and industry to accelerate the development of national technology. Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto outlined President Prabowo Subianto’s direction at the Danantara Technology Innovation Investment Forum (DTIIF) 2026 at the Fairmont Jakarta on Monday (26 October 2026), according to Investor Daily. At the forum, Brian and Investment and Downstreaming Minister, head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and Danantara Indonesia chief executive Rosan Roeslani called for research, investment and industrial activity to be integrated.
The collaboration is intended to bring research findings towards commercial application and support Indonesia’s industrialisation. Rosan stressed that innovation requires funding and the adoption of technology to deliver long-term economic benefits. He also highlighted the importance of sustainable growth in developing national technology.
“Innovation alone is not enough; innovation requires investment, technology requires adoption, and growth must be sustainable to create long-term value,” said Rosan Roeslani, Investment and Downstreaming Minister, BKPM head and Danantara Indonesia chief executive.
Brian said DTIIF 2026 discussed several priority sectors considered important to Indonesia’s industrialisation. They include energy; agriculture and food; healthcare; advanced materials and semiconductors; transport and infrastructure; finance and banking; and artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and telecommunications. He said promising research needs sustained support to be developed into industrial products or processes. Access to testing facilities, financing, production and markets is an important part of that process.
“Mr President has asked research institutions and universities to work more closely with industry. Promising discoveries need access to testing, financing, production and markets,” said Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology. He added that the government wanted international partners to help strengthen Indonesia’s industrial capabilities. Cooperation would include research partnerships, workforce training and support for local suppliers to meet international standards.
“Mr President has asked global partners to build research partnerships, train Indonesian human resources and help local suppliers meet international standards. Let us measure success by the capabilities we are building, as well as by the capital invested,” Brian said.
Brian also said Danantara had been directed to connect long-term investment with research activities and state-owned enterprises (SOEs). The aim is to help innovations reach industrial scale, while ensuring public capital is managed professionally, transparently and with discipline.
DTIIF 2026 is being held from 26 to 28 October under the theme “Investing in Tomorrow: Advancing Technology, Innovation, and Sustainable Growth”. According to information about the event reported by Investor Daily, the forum brings together institutional investors, global technology investment stakeholders, government officials, academics, industry players and start-ups to link innovation with investment opportunities and industrial applications in Indonesia.
