President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto held a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Rob Jetten. The two leaders discussed trade cooperation under the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-EU CEPA) and current global political issues.

According to a post by the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague on Friday (12/6/2026), the discussion covered strengthening bilateral relations, trade cooperation including the I-EU CEPA, and various regional and global issues of mutual concern, including the Middle East.

“This communication affirms the commitment of Indonesia and the Netherlands to continue strengthening a mutually beneficial partnership amidst ever-changing global dynamics,” the post stated.

On his social media platform X, Rob Jetten explained that Indonesia and the Netherlands are connected in many fields and share a common vision. “The Netherlands and Indonesia are culturally and historically closely connected and work well together in areas such as trade, water, and sustainable agriculture. And our countries are like-minded partners in a rapidly changing world,” Jetten wrote.

Jetten also conveyed that he and President Prabowo discussed international security conditions and the territories of their respective countries. “Together with @Prabowo Subianto, president of Indonesia, I discussed today the importance of international cooperation for security and prosperity in our regions and beyond,” he said.

Jetten further noted that the two leaders touched upon the trade agreement between the European Union and Indonesia amid the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. “Where the trade agreement between the EU and Indonesia and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz were also mentioned. Precisely in a turbulent world, Indonesia and the Netherlands are working together to strengthen closer ties,” he stated.

Previously, in September 2025, President Prabowo was received by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands at Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague. During that meeting, Prabowo and the Dutch royal couple discussed important issues and the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
