President Prabowo Subianto opened a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, all ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, the President’s Special Envoys, and heads of high state institutions. In his speech, President Prabowo stated that the cabinet meeting was deliberately held mid-year to welcome the 17 August celebrations and to mark the approaching two-year milestone of the administration. He said an evaluation was necessary to assess how many programmes had been achieved and what needed to be improved to accelerate delayed policies. President Prabowo noted that over nearly two years, the government had faced many significant challenges, particularly amid a turbulent global situation. However, he urged all members of the Red and White Cabinet not to be daunted by the nation’s various problems and to focus on solving them. President Prabowo stressed that the government did not intend to find fault or compare its performance with previous administrations. According to him, each government faces challenges unique to its own era. Furthermore, President Prabowo said all ministers and heads of institutions are elements of the nation’s leadership who have been given a mandate to confront and resolve various national issues. He said the government understands that teacher welfare remains low, job opportunities are limited, extreme poverty still exists, and economic inequality persists in society. These problems, according to President Prabowo, are precisely the reason the government was elected to solve them. Nevertheless, President Prabowo admitted that some of the problems faced by the government turned out to be far greater than anticipated. He highlighted distortions in the national economy caused by unfair trade practices. Therefore, President Prabowo asserted that the government has a mandate to stop such leakages in order to protect the national interest. ‘The latest count shows there are 108 problems that we have solved in over a year of our administration. This is no small achievement,’ he said. Despite this, the President reminded all cabinet members not to be complacent or arrogant about these achievements. ‘We do not want to pat ourselves on the back, we do not want to and must not be big-headed and must not be arrogant. That is our true character, ojo dumeh. If we achieve something, we must acknowledge that we have achieved it,’ said President Prabowo. On this occasion, President Prabowo highlighted the importance of food security as a primary measure of a country’s success. According to him, the ability to meet the people’s food needs is the basic foundation of a civilisation. He said food security must be supported by the availability of water, fertile land, affordable fertilisers, and appropriate policies so that the public can access food and children receive nutritious meals. President Prabowo also touched on the Free Nutritious Meals programme, interactive digital panels in schools, energy issues, investment, village cooperatives, and public housing. All discussions from the plenary cabinet session will be presented in a report to be delivered to the entire Indonesian public regarding the government’s performance over the past year before 17 August 2026.
