Prabowo Buys Limousin Cow in Ternate, Weighing 859 kg
TERNATE, NORTH MALUKU — President Prabowo Subianto has purchased a Limousin-cross cow weighing 859 kilograms from a local breeder for use as a sacrifice for the people of Ternate ahead of Idul Adha 1447 Hijriah. The owner of Omah Ternak, Subaim Sugeng, in Ternate, said the cow, named Kamandanu, had been raised for almost three years before it was bought as a charity animal. He said Kamandanu had been intensively cared for since the calf was brought from North Halmahera Regency. Daily feeding consisted of concentrate, ampas tahu, and silage from corn stalks mixed with EM4; he declined to disclose the price. They also regularly cleaned the pen and conducted health checks to ensure the cow remained in prime condition for Idul Adha. He said he was proud that a locally farmed North Maluku cow had been chosen as the President’s sacrifice for the people of Ternate. ‘This is a real pride for us local breeders. We did not expect the cow we raised for years to be selected for the President’s aid,’ he said. The President’s cow aid is planned to be slaughtered at Masjid Al-Munawwar according to directions from the Ternate city government. The central government is known to distribute one cow per district in North Maluku Province as part of a community assistance programme ahead of Idul Adha 2026. In addition to Ternate, President Prabowo is also distributing one cow to Morotai Regency. The Morotai cow weighs 800 kilograms and was sourced from North Halmahera Regency because there was no cow of that size in Morotai. Morotai Agriculture Service Head Tamhid Bilo said the cow for Morotai would be shipped two days before Lebaran. ‘H-2 the distribution will depart from Tobelo to Morotai. Because Morotai does not have a cow of that weight, it had to be taken from Tobelo,’ he said. He added that this year’s Morotai cow aid weighs 800 kilograms, slightly smaller than the previous year’s which was around 850 kilograms.
