A cow owned by a farmer from Jati Wonokromo, Pleret, Bantul, has become one of the sacrificial animals for Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The cow is named Mbah Iran and weighs around one ton.

The owner of the cow, Sarjono (51), said that at the beginning of May, a veterinarian came to check the health of his cows. After that, the veterinarian proposed one of his cows, named Mbah Iran, to the Food Security and Agriculture Service (DKPP) of Bantul Regency for use as a sacrificial animal for the President.

“It turned out that I was contacted from Jakarta, they said my cow was selected for Mr. Prabowo,” he said to reporters at his home in Pleret, Bantul, Sunday (17/5/2026).

After that, Sarjono said that officers from the Pleret Animal Health Center came to his house on Friday (15/5/2026). The officers gave deworming medicine and vitamins to his cow, Mbah Iran.

“This cow is a PO (Peranakan Ongole) type with a weight of about 1 ton. If the price was around Rp 90 million when it was bought,” he said.

Sarjono also said that he initially bought Mbah Iran from a farmer in Kebumen, Central Java for Rp 26 million. At that time, Mbah Iran was three years old.

“Why is its name Mbah Iran? Because the previous owner’s name was Mbah Iran, then after I bought it, I named the cow Mbah Iran,” he said.

So Sarjono has only been raising Mbah Iran for about two years. Moreover, Mbah Iran was selected as one of the President’s sacrificial animals.

“Alhamdulillah, I am happy because my cow is needed by the number one person in Indonesia. Even though actually this cow is also a favorite,” he said.

The man who has eight cows said that after Mbah Iran was sold, he would buy another cow. According to him, all of that is to cure the feeling of losing Mbah Iran.

“If you ask if I regret it, yes, I regret it, but it’s okay, tomorrow I will look for one like this again, starting from a small one,” he said.

Sarjono also gave special care for Mbah Iran after being officially bought by Prabowo. The treatment is related to animal feed and ensuring the cleanliness of Mbah Iran before slaughter.

“The treatment is also special now, since it was bought by Mr. Prabowo, its food is mixed with cassava and tempeh, it eats in the morning and afternoon. Then every three days this cow I bathe so that it is clean,” he said.

Sarjono added that Mbah Iran would be used as a sacrificial animal in Bantul. However, Sarjono does not yet know the exact location.

“This (cow) will be sent to Bantul for sure because yesterday the agreement was that I could only send it around Bantul. But for the exact location, I don’t know yet, maybe after the meeting on May 18, 2026, I will find out,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of DKPP Bantul, Joko Waluyo, said that Prabowo bought two cows for sacrificial animals from Bantul. However, regarding these two cows, Joko admitted that he did not yet know their destination.

“This year there are two cows that were bought by Mr. President from Bantul, the first in Wonokromo, Pleret and the second in Bangunjiwo, Kasihan. Of the two cows, one is for Bantul Regency and the other is planned for Gedung Agung, but it is not yet certain,” he said.
