Prabowo: BRICS Will Shape the Future of Global South Nations and Determine Development Direction
President Prabowo Subianto has asserted that BRICS holds a strategic role in strengthening the voice of Global South nations to determine the direction of development and the future of the world.
Speaking during an open session of the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapum, New Delhi, India, Prabowo stated that this will lead to a future where resilience protects development, innovation expands opportunities, and cooperation produces tangible impacts.
“Furthermore, sustainability means that prosperity is realised, both for the present and for future generations,” said Prabowo via an official statement from the BPMI of the President’s Secretariat on Sunday, 13 September 2026.
Prabowo noted that strengthening the voice of Global South nations is crucial so that developing countries can have a larger role in determining the direction of global development.
The President stated that the international community will enter the year 2030 within the next four years, which serves as the target for achieving the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to him, various commitments have been agreed upon by nations worldwide to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and build stronger institutions.
“These commitments remain steadfast. We must continue to move beyond 2030,” said Prabowo.
The President emphasised that the 2030 Agenda is not merely about achieving targets within a specific timeframe, but must also be part of the effort to place developing nations in their rightful position.
“This agenda aims to bring developing nations to their proper position, realise peace and prosperity for our people, and provide a larger role for developing countries in shaping the global order,” the President said.
Prabowo assessed that the voices of Global South nations deserve to be heard, both in accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and in determining the direction of the future following that agenda.
