Prabowo Breaks with Tradition, to Present the 2027 Economic Direction Himself in Parliament, Dasco Reveals Why

JAKARTA — Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has spoken about President Prabowo Subianto’s plan to personally deliver the Macro-Economic Framework (KEM) and the Pokok-Pokok Kebijakan Fiskal (PPKF) for the RAPBN 2027 at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. Until now, the readings have been carried out by the Finance Minister (Menkeu). In the previous year, the person presenting the economic direction in the DPR was Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. Dasco said that ministers are inherently representatives of the President, so it is entirely appropriate for Prabowo to deliver it himself. ‘Ministers actually represent the President. So there’s no rule preventing a President… It can be done directly,’ Dasco said at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. ‘This is apparently the first time the President will present the economic direction himself before the DPR.’ ‘I just checked a moment ago; perhaps this is the first time, right,’ he added. According to Kompas.com records, the delivery of the KEM-PPKF in previous years was carried out by the Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. For example, in May 2024, Sri Mulyani represented the government in presenting the KEM-PPKF 2025 at a plenary session of the DPR RI. At that time, the government targeted economic growth of about 5.1 to 5.5 percent. ‘Inflation was expected to be between 1.5 and 3.5 percent,’ Sri Mulyani said at the DPR RI on 20 May 2024. Meanwhile, for the 2026 KEM-PPKF delivery in May 2025, Sri Mulyani again represented the government at the DPR’s plenary session. Then, the government set a target for 2026 growth of around 5.2 to 5.8 percent. ‘We projected 2026 growth at around 5.2 to 5.8 percent,’ Sri Mulyani said at the DPR RI plenary on 20 May 2025.
