Prabowo Breaks Ground on 13 Downstreaming Projects Worth Rp 116 Trillion
President Prabowo Subianto attended the groundbreaking ceremony for 13 second-phase downstreaming projects scattered across various regions. Prabowo stated that these 13 projects are valued at Rp 116 trillion.
The projects include five in the energy sector, five in the minerals sector, and three in the agriculture sector. The groundbreaking for these projects took place in Cilacap, Central Java, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.
“With the invocation of Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, with great pride, launch the groundbreaking for the second phase of downstreaming, covering 13 strategic downstreaming projects,” Prabowo said, quoted from the live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
The former Minister of Defence claimed that downstreaming is the path to the resurgence of the Indonesian nation. Prabowo assured that the government will accelerate the number of downstreaming projects. “This year, we will also add more downstreaming, perhaps six more projects, and we will continue to add them. There might be a fourth, fifth, sixth phase, Insha’Allah, this year as well,” he said.
Citing Antara, the 13 projects are spread across various regions and carried out simultaneously. One of them is the construction of a gasoline refinery facility in Cilacap, Central Java, and Dumai, Riau, managed by Pertamina.
In addition, the construction of operational tanks for fuel oil storage facilities is planned in several regions, including Palaran in East Kalimantan, Biak in Papua, and Maumere in East Nusa Tenggara.
In the metal industry sector, the downstreaming projects include the development of a nickel-based steel manufacturing facility in Morowali, Central Sulawesi, to the production facility for carbon steel slabs in Cilegon, Banten, involving Krakatau Steel.
The development of the construction sector is also part of the projects, through the construction of an ecosystem and production facility for Buton asphalt in Karawang, West Java.
Meanwhile, there is also a project to process coal into dimethyl ether (DME) in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra. Downstreaming is also carried out in the precious metals sector through the processing of copper and gold in Gresik, East Java, as well as the plantation sector through the processing of palm oil into oleofood products and biodiesel in Sei Mangkei, North Sumatra.
In addition, this second phase of downstreaming also includes the processing of nutmeg commodities into oleoresin in Central Maluku, as well as the construction of an integrated coconut facility to produce MCT, flour, and activated carbon.
