Prabowo breaks ground on 100 GWp solar power project

President Prabowo Subianto has officiated the groundbreaking of the first phase of the 100 GWp Solar Power Plant (PLTS) programme today. Prabowo led the hybrid groundbreaking ceremony for the solar plants at 14 locations.

The ceremony was held at the Java-Bali Sea Crossing Operation Monument in Gilimanuk, Jembrana Regency, Bali, on Tuesday (25/8/2026). The event was attended by a number of ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, including Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

“On this afternoon, Tuesday 25 August, by the grace of Almighty God, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby officially launch the 100 GWp Solar Power Plant programme, beginning with 14 solar plants in the provinces of West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, the Bangka Belitung Islands, and the Riau Islands with a total capacity of 5.34 GWp,” said Prabowo as he pressed the launch button.

Prabowo said this step is an important breakthrough in moving away from fossil fuels. He reiterated the target of realising the 100 GWp solar plants within three years.

“And today is an important day; we are launching 100 GWp of solar power for the Indonesian nation,” he said.

“To put it into perspective, Minister for Economic Affairs, all of Indonesia’s electricity currently stands at 88 GWp. From coal, oil, gas, geothermal, 88 GWp. We are going to build 100 GWp. And we are not playing around; our target is within three years,” he added.
