Prabowo Becomes the Second President to Visit Miangas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto conducted a working visit to Miangas in the Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, on Saturday, becoming the second president of the Republic of Indonesia to visit this northernmost outer island directly.
Monitored via the live broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Saturday, President Prabowo conveyed his thanks to the community for welcoming him warmly.
Prabowo stated that the first presidential visit to Miangas was made by the seventh President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), to inaugurate the construction of the airport in the area.
According to Prabowo, the government will now continue efforts to enhance facilities on the border island, including airport maintenance to improve air transportation services in the future.
“Mr Jokowi inaugurated the airport, and I will later repair or maintain it to make it even better,” he said.
Not only transportation facilities, said President Prabowo, but the government will also accelerate the renovation of puskesmas (community health centres) across Indonesia to improve public health services.
He emphasised that the school renovation programme will continue so that all students receive adequate learning facilities.
“We will renovate all schools later,” Prabowo stated.
In Miangas, President Prabowo is scheduled to meet with the community and inspect the puskesmas on one of the outermost islands of the archipelago. Previously, the President had just attended the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on 7-8 April 2026.
