Prabowo Becomes Second Indonesian President to Visit Miangas, Plans to Develop Fishing Village
President Prabowo Subianto conducted a working visit to Miangas in Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, on Saturday. This visit makes Prabowo the second president of the Republic of Indonesia to come directly to this northernmost outer island of Indonesia.
Monitored through the live broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Saturday (9/6/2026), President Prabowo conveyed his thanks to the community for warmly welcoming his arrival.
Prabowo stated that the first presidential visit to Miangas was made by Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to inaugurate the construction of the airport in the area.
“We are grateful; I am the second president to have visited Miangas, Mr Jokowi has already done so,” Prabowo said.
According to Prabowo, the government will now continue efforts to improve facilities on the border island, including airport maintenance to enhance air transportation services in the future.
“Mr Jokowi inaugurated the airport; I will later repair or maintain it to make it even better,” he said.
Not only transportation facilities, President Prabowo stated that the government will also accelerate the renovation of puskesmas across Indonesia to improve public health services.
In dialogue with residents and educational institutions, President Prabowo also ensured the condition of educational facilities in Miangas.
He emphasised that the school renovation programme will continue so that all students receive adequate learning facilities.
“Later, all schools will be renovated,” Prabowo said.
In Miangas, President Prabowo is scheduled to meet with the community and inspect the puskesmas on one of the outermost islands of the archipelago. Previously, the President had just attended the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on 7-8 April 2026.
