Prabowo Bans Omelettes from Free Nutritious Meal Programme

President Prabowo Subianto has requested that the kitchens for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme refrain from serving omelettes as part of their menu. According to Prabowo, omelettes may lack sufficient nutritional value as they often contain more flour than egg.

The Chairman of the Gerindra Party delivered these instructions during a national consolidation meeting with MBG partners in Sentul, Bogor, West Java. “Partners, secondly, do not make omelettes,” Prabently stated on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, as reported by the Presidential Secretariat.

Prabowo expressed concern that omelette menus might not be nutritious enough for the MBG programme because the actual egg portion could be minimal. “I have been Indonesian for a long time. With omelettes, various things are mixed in. Right? There is more flour than egg,” he remarked.

The former Minister of Defence instructed that the egg portions served to MBG recipients must not be reduced, stating that every serving should contain at least one whole egg. Prabowo suggested that partners of the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) should prepare sunny-side-up or boiled eggs instead. He also expressed hope that MBG kitchens would avoid scrambled eggs for the same reason. “Ensure there are no more omelettes or whatever that is. Scrambled is fine,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo held the event, titled ‘Building Indonesia’s Future Generations Through Nutrition’, at the Sentul International Convention Centre (SICC), Bogor, West Java, last Wednesday. The event was attended by 12,173 participants, including Heads of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Offices (KPPG), regional and area coordinators of SPPG from across Indonesia, SPPG heads, and MBG implementing partners.

The event took place one day after the removal of three leaders from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). The three include the former head of BGN, Dadan Hindayana, and two former deputy heads, Inspector General (Ret.) Sony Sanjaya and Lieutenant General (Ret.) Lodewyk Pusung. The Attorney General’s Office has now named the three as suspects in an alleged corruption case.

Dadan’s position as head of the BGN has been replaced by Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, who previously served as the deputy head of the BGN.
