Prabowo Attends Monas Event, Greets and Shakes Hands with Workers on May Day 2026

President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, attended the action commemorating International Labour Day or May Day at the National Monument (Monas), Jakarta, on Friday (1/5). Prabowo’s arrival was met with enthusiasm by thousands of workers who filled the Monas area.

Prabowo arrived at Monas around 08:38 WIB. He was seen wearing a brown safari suit complete with a hat. Prabowo appeared to greet the workers from atop the RI 1 vehicle that carried him.

After disembarking from the vehicle, Prabowo patiently greeted and shook hands with the enthusiastic workers who were eager to meet the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia directly. Prabowo then ascended the stage for the May Day 2026 event at Monas.

Shortly after taking the stage, Prabowo tossed his hat towards the workers. He then briefly danced on stage accompanied by the song “Kamu Ngga’ Sendirian” by the band Tipe-X.

The crowd of workers had been filling the Monas area since the morning, particularly near the base of the Monas obelisk. The masses had been arriving at Monas since 06:00 WIB.

The attending labour unions included KSPSI, SPMI, KSPN, FSPMI, and SPSI. Flags of the labour unions fluttered among the crowd.

Several members of the Merah Putih Cabinet were present, namely the Deputy Minister for State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Manpower Yassierli, Minister of Environment Jumhur Hidayat, and Deputy Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Additionally, there was Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.
