Prabowo Attends Luncheon with Putin, Delivers Key Message

Vladivostok, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended a luncheon with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (3/9/2026) local time. Also present at the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

“Thank you, Your Excellency President Putin, President of the Russian Federation,” said Prabowo. “First of all, I am very pleased to meet Your Excellency again. Thank you for the warm welcome and the hospitality extended to me. I feel very honoured and happy to visit Vladivostok,” he continued.

Prabowo then offered his congratulations on the commemoration of the National Day of the Russian Federation on 12 June 2026. The Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party also expressed his appreciation for the hosting of the 20th ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit on 18 June 2026.

“I sincerely apologise because I was unable to attend that important event due to domestic matters that I could not leave behind. However, I am making up for it by being here in Vladivostok now. Once again, thank you,” said Prabowo.

According to him, Indonesia and Russia share deep historical ties, spanning more than five decades. For Indonesia, Russia remains a very important partner.

“Therefore, we are proud and happy that our relationship was able to be elevated to a strategic partnership last year,” said Prabowo.

Furthermore, he added that Indonesia feels honoured to participate in the 9th Eastern Economic Forum. This forum holds great potential to serve as a bridge for cooperation and connectivity within our region.

“We are both Pacific nations, and for us as an archipelagic state, connectivity and maritime cooperation are vital,” said Prabowo.

The former Minister of Defence stated that Indonesia continues to strive to enhance cooperation across all sectors to achieve mutual benefits for both countries.

“In several areas, our relationship continues to improve, as Your Excellency has noted; in the fields of economy and trade, we are increasing. Our cooperation in various other sectors is also progressing, and we are ready to further enhance this cooperation. Thank you,” said Prabowo.
