Prabowo Attends Indian Diaspora Event in Senayan During Modi's State Visit
President Prabowo Subianto attended the Indian Community Reception held at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. The event coincided with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jakarta on the same day. Prabowo delivered a speech at the forum, expressing his gratitude and happiness at meeting the Indian community in Indonesia. “Once again, allow me to extend a very warm welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit to Indonesia,” he said. Prabowo recalled the honour he received when he was the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations in 2025. He noted the historical significance of the moment, as Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, was also the chief guest at India’s inaugural Republic Day celebration in 1950. In his remarks, Modi expressed appreciation for the warm reception from President Prabowo and the people of Indonesia. “This is an experience I will remember for a lifetime,” he stated. Modi said he could see the affection Indonesians have for India. “Today I even saw it at the Presidential Palace. The spirit of the Indonesian people, the smiles of the schoolchildren at the palace earlier, the enthusiasm of Indonesia’s youth, everything was so extraordinary. I cannot express it in words, it was truly amazing,” Modi said. He also expressed admiration for the enthusiasm of the Indonesian people, which he felt reflected a sincere friendship, including the popularity of Indian songs. According to Modi, this cultural closeness serves as strong capital to strengthen relations between the two countries in the future. The Indian Community Reception concluded the series of PM Modi’s state visit in Jakarta. Modi visited Indonesia for three days, having been in Jakarta since Monday, 6 July 2026. In addition to visiting the capital, Modi was also scheduled to travel to Yogyakarta to visit Prambanan Temple. President Prabowo officially received Modi through a state ceremony at Merdeka Palace on Tuesday. They also held a closed bilateral meeting followed by their respective delegations and a luncheon. A number of strategic memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between Indonesia and India were signed at Merdeka Palace. The meeting resulted in 16 agreements between the two countries. In the presence of President Prabowo and PM Modi, one of the cooperation documents exchanged was an agreement between the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Indian Space Research Organisation. This agreement covers cooperation in the field of space research. Additionally, Indonesia and India announced 15 other documents covering cooperation in various fields, ranging from defence, energy, health, and culture to technology.
