Prabowo attends funeral of former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu

President Prabowo Subianto attended the funeral of former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, whose body was laid in state at the Bhineka Tunggal Ika Building, Ministry of Defence, Jakarta, on Monday, 1 June 2026. His arrival at the Ministry of Defence was greeted with military honour trumpet salutes.

Arriving at approximately 8:30 AM WIB, the Head of State alighted directly in front of the Bhineka Tunggal Ika Building, the site of the funeral arrangements. President Prabowo was accompanied by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya, and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.

Prior to President Prabowo’s arrival, several other officials and military figures had already paid their respects, including Chief of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto, former Defence Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro (2009-2014), and senior Ministry of Defence officials.

Ryamizard passed away on Sunday afternoon, 31 May 2026. The former Army Chief of Staff died at the age of 76 at Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital in Jakarta.

Following the laying-in-state at the Ministry of Defence, Ryamizard’s remains will be buried with military honours at Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery in South Jakarta. The funeral ceremony will be led by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

President Prabowo, however, will not attend the funeral procession. The Gerindra Party chairman is scheduled to preside over the national Pancasila Day ceremony at Pancasila Building Field, Jalan Taman Pejambon, Jakarta, at around 10:00 AM WIB.
