Prabowo Attends DPR Plenary, Evidence of Indonesia's Economic Concern

This is something positive; we welcome it and see it as a sign that the relationship between the government and the DPR is very good. We also thank the president for choosing to be present in person, because previously it was the economy minister who delivered the KEM, Bahtra said when contacted on Tuesday (20/5/2026).

He noted that the president’s attendance signifies that the President is paying attention to Indonesia’s economic conditions. “With the president’s presence, it means President Prabowo is concerned about our growth prospects for the economy,” he said.

The Deputy Chairman of the DPR Commission II also noted that Indonesia’s economic conditions have improved during Prabowo’s leadership. He cited the 5.61% growth in the first quarter according to BPS, saying, “Our economy is getting better under Pak Prabowo’s leadership; the fundamentals are strong, there is no need to worry about narratives by some who claim our economy is weak.”

As is known, the DPR will hold its 19th plenary session for the V session of the 2025-2026 parliamentary year on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. It is planned that the plenary meeting will be attended by President Prabowo Subianto.

“Yes, that is the plan (Prabowo attending the plenary),” Deputy Speaker of the DPR Saan Mustopa said at the parliamentary complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (19/5).

Saan said Prabowo will present the macroeconomic framework (KEM). He also noted that Prabowo will outline the key fiscal policy (PPKF).

“So, regarding the macroeconomic framework, along with the key fiscal policy that will be delivered directly by the President,” he said.

The NasDem party politician said this will be Prabowo’s first appearance at a DPR plenary session.

“Yes, as far as I know, it will be his first time,” he said. (maa/maa)
