Prabowo Attends BRICS Summit Open Session in India Today
President Prabowo Subianto attended the second day of the 18th BRICS Summit 2026 in India. On this second day, Prabowo participated in the summit’s open session.
According to the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Sunday (12/9/2026), the 18th BRICS Summit 2026 is being held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India, led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also in attendance were Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and various other heads of state and government, primarily from the Global South.
Before the open session commenced, all BRICS member heads of state and government participated in a group photograph. During the session, Prabowo was seen alongside Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Kemeluly Tokayev and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil El-Sisi.
The meeting was subsequently opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the host of this BRICS Summit. Prabowo, wearing a grey beskap, sat flanked by Tokayev and El-Sisi.
In a closed-door session held the previous day, Prabowo urged world leaders to imagine what BRICS could achieve if its collective power were fully deployed to help guarantee food and energy supplies.
Furthermore, Prabowo assessed that BRICS could create greater opportunities for developing nations if markets, capital, resources, technology, and knowledge were better interconnected.
“Imagine if the countries of the Global South could speak with more confidence and greater coordination in shaping the institutions that govern our world, in protecting and promoting peace, and in fighting for justice,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo noted that if these methods and goals could be achieved, it would support both developed and developing nations. To achieve these ambitions, Prabowo wishes to place the United Nations at the centre, as the UN serves as the forum where all nations of the world gather.
“Together, we can build a stronger multilateral system that supports the needs and interests of all nations, whether large or small, strong or weak. For this effort to succeed, we must place the United Nations at the heart of that system,” he stated.
However, Prabowo noted that the UN must be reformed to perform an effective role so that it can be more responsive and impactful for the entire global community.
“Because the UN remains the only multilateral institution where all nations gather as equals. And for the UN to perform its central role effectively, this institution must be reformed. The UN must become more representative, more responsive, and more capable of delivering real results for our people,” he added.
