Prabowo Attends 18th BRICS Summit in India, Welcomed with Warm Embrace by PM Modi
President Prabowo Subianto attended the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India. Prabowo’s arrival was directly received by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As seen via the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Prabowo arrived at Bharat Mandapam, New Em Delhi, on Saturday (12/9/2026) afternoon local time. Prabowo was seen wearing a dark grey suit, a blue tie, and a black songkok.
Upon arrival at the venue, Prabowo was greeted by an honour guard lined up in the event area. He then walked along the red carpet towards the BRICS Summit venue.
In the reception area, Prabowo met directly with PM Modi. The two exchanged ‘namaste’ greetings before sharing a warm embrace.
Prabowo and Modi then shook hands and took photographs together against the backdrop of the BRICS logo. They also engaged in a brief conversation before Modi escorted Prabowo to the main event area.
Several leaders of BRICS member and partner nations were also present at this summit, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Indonesia became a full member of BRICS on 1 January 2025 and participated for the first time as a full member at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro in July 2025. President Prabowo Subianto’s presence at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi marks Indonesia’s second participation as a full member of BRICS.
According to the Government Communications Agency (Bakom RI), Indonesia will bring five national interest agendas that align with the priorities of the 2026 Indian BRICS presidency.
First, Indonesia is pushing for the strengthening of global governance and the reform of the world trade system to be inclusive, open, and non-discriminatory, with the WTO serving as the primary foundation.
Second, Indonesia is encouraging enhanced cooperation in addressing climate change and achieving global ecological justice. In the 2026 BRICS forum, Indonesia emphasised that ecosystem protection and climate resilience are vital components of sustainable development.
Third, Indonesia supports the strengthening of the New Development Bank (NDB) and is currently completing internal processes to join as a member of the NDB. Fourth, Indonesia is active in the intellectual property agenda. Indonesia is bringing initiatives regarding global digital royalty governance and has previously introduced the Jakarta Protocol in the BRICS Intellectual Property Offices forum.
Fifth, BRICS cooperation also encompasses the fields of food security, agriculture, health, education, urban development, energy, as well as trade and investment.
