President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has urged all law enforcement officers, including the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), Polri (Indonesian National Police), and the prosecutor’s office, not to abuse their authority by becoming patrons of illegal activities.

This was conveyed by Prabowo during the inauguration of the museum dedicated to the Indonesian labour hero, Marsinah, in Nganjuk, East Java, on Saturday (16/5).

“All other officers must also improve themselves; the prosecutor’s office, the police, and the military must conduct self-correction and eliminate irregularities and corruption from within their respective institutions,” said Prabowo.

“I repeat, all officers must improve themselves, they must cleanse themselves, they must be brave enough to correct, and it must not be the case that officers are behind irregularities, officers are patrons of irregularities, officers are patrons of smuggling, patrons of drugs, patrons of gambling, patrons of this or that illegal activity,” he continued.

Prabowo stated that he conveyed this on behalf of the Indonesian people. Therefore, he asked law enforcement officers to dedicate themselves to the Indonesian people.

“Be soldiers of the people, be police officers of the people who are loved by the people, and this has been initiated by the leadership of the TNI and the police, as I see it,” he said.

Prabowo admitted that he is often ridiculed by other countries. However, he said that this is not a problem.

“I am indeed often ridiculed, I am the most ridiculed, but the people who are suffering endure more every day,” he said.

“How come their police are taking care of corn, how come the military is taking care of rice fields? This is what I mean when I say that the TNI is the army of the people, and our police must be the police of the people. And this is what the current police leadership has initiated,” he added.
