Prabowo at BRICS: We Do Not Like Being Dictated by Certain Powers
President Prabowo Subiability emphasised the importance of strengthening resilience and independence so that the nation is able to determine its own policy direction and is not dictated by certain powers.
Prabowo conveyed this during a closed session themed “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India.
“We do not like being dictated by one or two specific powers. We must be resilient and subsequently become truly independent. We have strengthened our foundations to maintain peace and build trust,” said Prabowo, according to a statement from the BPMI of the Presidential Secretariat received in Jakarta on Saturday.
According to Prabowo, a nation’s strength must be built from within by ensuring the ability to meet the basic needs of its people, ranging from food and energy to education and welfare.
“Strength always begins domestically with our people, through our ability to meet their food needs, guarantee the energy supplies they require, educate our children, and provide them with the opportunity to live prosperously,” he said.
He noted that the togetherness of member nations can strengthen the position and resilience of each respective country.
With a strong national foundation, Prabowo believes that BRICS can expand cooperation in various strategic sectors that impact the resilience of its member states.
One sector deemed strategic is energy, through the strengthening of energy system connectivity and inter-regional energy security.
“Energy is one clear example. We connect our energy systems and strengthen energy security across our regions to drive our economies and build sustainable resilience,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to the founding members of BRICS for welcoming Indonesia as part of the group, which represents a large portion of the world’s population.
The 18th BRICS Summit is taking place at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India, on 12–13 September 2026, under the chairmanship of India.
