Prabowo assures government will continue sending aid for NTT earthquake victims

President Prabowo Subianto has assured that the government will continue to monitor conditions and send aid to help communities affected by the earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). “The central government is continuously monitoring and continuously taking steps to send aid, preparing everything to overcome this difficulty,” said Prabowo while checking on the condition of earthquake refugees in Nagekeo Regency, NTT, on Wednesday.

Prabowo said the government has prepared temporary repairs so that schools can immediately resume teaching and learning activities. However, for safety reasons, schools will likely use tents first. “We have prepared temporary repair measures so that schools can open soon, can be run immediately. Perhaps for safety, schools may be in tents first,” he said.

Prabowo asked the public to be patient during the post-earthquake handling process. Based on expert assessments, conditions are expected to be safe in about three weeks at most. “According to experts, we need to be patient, perhaps a maximum of three more weeks before it passes safely,” said Prabowo.

Once conditions are declared safe, the government will begin building temporary housing and carrying out repairs to affected residents’ homes. Prabowo stressed that the government will not leave communities affected by the disaster to face the situation alone and will continue to provide assistance. “Believe me, the government will not leave you alone. We are present and we will continue to help you,” said Prabowo.

On that occasion, Prabowo also expressed his condolences to the people who lost family members due to the earthquake disaster. “I convey to all the people of Flores, the areas affected by the disaster, my condolences to those who lost their families,” said Prabowo.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded that as of Tuesday (25/8), the death toll from the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that occurred in Nagekeo Regency, NTT, on Saturday (15/8) at 05.58 WITA, had risen to 103 people.
