Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has assured that Indonesia’s food supply is secure amid the current global crisis and conflicts occurring in various regions of the world.

“Whatever happens elsewhere, where many other nations will face significant difficulties, at least we are safe on the food security front,” Prabowo stated during a video conference broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Monday afternoon.

The President noted that this achievement is the result of food self-sufficiency efforts that he has championed for years.

Prabowo stated that Indonesia has currently achieved rice self-sufficiency. The Government, he said, is also targeting fulfilment of domestic protein needs.

With these achievements, Indonesia is considered to possess strong food security, remaining safe even as many other countries face difficulties due to global volatility.

“In a situation of conflicts everywhere, with fuel prices soaring very high which can affect food prices, we are grateful that we are approaching food self-sufficiency. We have already achieved rice self-sufficiency, which is our staple food. But we will also soon achieve the capacity to meet our protein needs,” he stated.

In the energy sector, the President stated that the Government is also promoting energy self-sufficiency. Future fuel needs are expected to no longer depend on imports from abroad, but instead be met from domestic energy sources.

“We have received a great blessing from the Almighty that we will soon be able to meet our fuel needs not from foreign imports, but even from our own plants, from palm oil, from cassava, from maize, from sugarcane,” the Head of State said.

Furthermore, Prabowo cautioned that amid a world situation full of uncertainty due to conflicts between major powers, this has the potential to drag other nations into difficulties.

However, with the wealth Indonesia possesses, Prabowo is confident that Indonesia can emerge from the global crisis stronger, more productive and able to stand on its own feet.

“We have strength. I believe we will emerge stronger. We will come out of this crisis in a stronger and more prosperous condition, more productive, more able to stand on our own feet. We are very grateful for the blessings given to us by the Almighty,” he said.

The President emphasised the importance of hard work, unity, and cooperation among all institutions and various parties to face the situation.
