In his speech at the Plenary Session of the Indonesian Parliament at the Nusantara Building of the MPR/DPR/DPD RI in Jakarta, President Prabowo Subianto said the government is running the Pancasila economic doctrine as the main foundation of national development. He stressed that the national economy must be on the side of the people and uphold social justice and national unity. ‘The economic doctrine we pursue is the Pancasila economic doctrine—an economy that is God-centred, humane, and rooted in national unity,’ said Prabowo. The head of state emphasised that economic development should not be oriented only toward the interests of particular groups or regions. The state must be present to ensure a balance between growth and the distribution of welfare. ‘Our economy must be socially just; it must be on the side of the Indonesian people as a whole. The state must be present, it must maintain balance, and it must ensure both growth and equity,’ he said. In his address, President Prabowo also stressed the importance of good public service and a strong bureaucracy as essential conditions for a country’s progress. The government, according to the President, must be able to provide legal certainty and support the business sector in creating jobs. ‘No advanced country excels if it does not provide public services well. Governments must be superior, helping the private sector to create jobs. No country progresses if the government is weak and the bureaucracy is weak. No advanced country exists without legal certainty,’ he stated. The President added that the government would continue strengthening state institutions through raising the welfare of civil servants to create clean and professional institutions. ‘There are some salaries for our judges that have risen by almost 300 percent,’ he said. Prabowo emphasised the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and improving national bureaucratic governance. He also instructed all ministries and agencies to promptly root out practices of deviation within their respective environments. ‘We must commit to continually building a strong, professional, corruption-free government. We must work together to safeguard all,’ he said. In efforts to reinforce the people’s economy, the President highlighted the progress of Merah Putih Cooperatives, which are being expanded in various regions. The government aims for tens of thousands of cooperatives to operate by year-end to strengthen circulation of the economy in villages and sub-districts. ‘There are 1,061 Merah Putih Cooperatives that are operational. Our target by August is to operationalise at least 20,000 cooperatives, and by the end of the year more than 60,000,’ the Head of State said. Furthermore, Prabowo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening national energy resilience through the development of new and renewable energy. The government is accelerating the construction of solar power and the processing of energy based on domestic resources to reduce dependence on imported fuel. ‘We have launched plans to build one hundred gigawatts of solar energy within the next three years. We will pair this with conversion of motorbikes and cars from fossil-fuel to electric vehicles. Inshaa Allah we will eliminate our dependence on imported fuel products, and save our valuable foreign exchange,’ the President concluded.
