Prabowo Asserts Indonesia Never Promised $1 Billion Contribution to Board of Peace
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has asserted that Indonesia never promised to donate money amounting to USD 1 billion to the Board of Peace (BoP) championed by United States President Donald Trump. “So, we never said that we wanted to contribute $1 billion,” stated Prabowo during a discussion with journalists and experts, as quoted from a release by the Indonesian State Communication Agency (Bakom) on Saturday (21/3/2026). The Head of State emphasised that the government never committed any funds to the United States upon joining the BoP. According to him, this is evident from Indonesia’s absence at the founding donors’ meeting on 19 February. The Head of State also conveyed that Indonesia is ready to be part of the Board of Peace solely to provide peacekeeping troop contributions to protect Gaza residents. “We have stated our readiness to send peacekeeping forces as needed,” said Prabowo. Furthermore, Prabowo mentioned that the government will continue to follow developments regarding Gaza moving forward. Indonesia may also consider further contributions if Gaza’s reconstruction can begin. Prabowo reiterated that there was never any commitment to pay membership fees to the Board of Peace. “There is no commitment at all,” emphasised the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
