Prabowo Asserts Indonesia Never Committed to Paying USD 1 Billion BoP Contribution

President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has emphasised that the Indonesian government never committed to paying a USD 1 billion contribution to the Peace Council or Board of Peace (BoP), initiated by United States President Donald Trump. Prabowo stated that he never discussed any commitment regarding the BoP financial contribution with Trump. “So we never said that we wanted to join the USD 1 billion contribution. No, never,” said Prabowo in an interview quoted on Sunday (22/3/2026). Prabowo then mentioned a meeting attended by ‘founding donors’ of the BoP in Washington DC, USA. Indonesia, he said, was not present there. “And this, in the meeting in Washington on 19 February last, well, this is the founding donors. So, they each contributed, some possibly more. But Indonesia wasn’t there. Because I also committed, when asked, I did not commit any money at all,” said Prabowo. On the other hand, Prabowo stated that Indonesia is ready to be part of the peace council by contributing to the deployment of peacekeeping forces. According to him, Indonesia is willing to send a number of troops as needed. “We said, we are ready for peacekeeping forces, however many are requested,” he said. Prabowo continued that the government will continue to follow future developments; when Gaza’s reconstruction can begin, Indonesia’s potential contribution will be considered. He mentioned that Indonesia has also taken several steps to support Palestine, such as building a hospital in Gaza. “If a ceasefire really succeeds and reconstruction begins, Indonesia could participate, right. We have Baznas, we have, and before this, we have already built a hospital, we have done various things there. There is no commitment (to contributions) at all,” he said.
