Prabowo Asserts His Administration Is Not Anti-Large Corporations
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Prabowo Subianto has affirmed that he is not against large corporations, stressing that every party has its own respective role.
He made the remarks in a speech at the peak celebration of the 79th National Cooperatives Day 2026 at Indonesia Arena, Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, on Sunday (12/7/2026).
According to him, Indonesia is a large country that requires various parties to manage its economic strength.
“Let me remind you, we are not against big companies, no! Because Indonesia is a big country, we need cooperatives, we need MSMEs, we need the private sector, we need SOEs and regionally owned enterprises, we need all of them! This must become an economic force, that is what I mean by Indonesia Incorporated,” he said.
This is the concept he emphasised as Incorporated, namely all economic forces moving together to strengthen the national economy.
He also reaffirmed the role of cooperatives as the backbone of Indonesia. According to him, cooperatives play a vital role in supporting a people-centred economy. By building thousands of Red-and-White Village/Neighbourhood Cooperatives (KDMP), he expressed confidence this would strengthen, not weaken, the Indonesian economy.
“If we strengthen cooperatives, it does not mean we will weaken the others, no! We strengthen everything,” he said.
Prabowo further ensured that KDMP would be developed into integrated village economic service centres. KDMP will provide various services including grocery stores, savings and loan services, and village pharmacies.
“We will open pharmacies in villages, stocked with generic medicines that are far cheaper than those at city pharmacies. There will be village logistics, warehouses, and cold storage, refrigerated rooms, so that farmers’ produce does not spoil, along with various other economic services,” he said.
On this occasion, he also decided that goods subsidised by the government must be distributed through the Red-and-White Village/Neighbourhood Cooperatives. This policy is intended to ensure that subsidised goods provided by the government genuinely reach their intended targets.
“I have already made the decision: all subsidised goods must be distributed to the people through the Red-and-White Village Cooperatives. It must, I say it must. Subsidised goods must not be traded by the people. So that those in need are the ones who receive them,” said Prabowo.
