Prabowo Asks Pindad to Design a Special Vehicle for the President: One with Windows and Seats

President Prabowo Subianto expressed his appreciation for the enthusiastic public receptions he receives during visits to various regions. He has requested that Pindad, an Indonesian state-owned defence industry company, design a special vehicle equipped with windows and seats to facilitate interactions with citizens.

Prabowo made this request while inaugurating 1,061 operational units of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative in Nganjuk, East Java on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

He shared that he enjoys greeting and shaking hands with people who gather to welcome him during his visits. “I am happy and touched by the warm receptions I receive when visiting different regions. However, it can be quite tiring because there are so many people lining the streets. It wouldn’t be right for the President to remain inside a vehicle, would it? So, I try to stand up and greet them.”

“I do stand up, and our people want to shake hands, so how could I refuse? But after a few visits, my hands get sore. It seems that many people in East Java are farmers, and their handshakes are quite firm,” he added with a laugh.

Prabowo then asked Sigit Puji Santosa, the CEO of PT Pindad, to design a special Maung vehicle that would make it easier for him to greet citizens. He also joked about his age, saying, “I’m thinking of asking Pindad, where is Professor Sigit? Could you design a special vehicle for the President with windows and seats, but still allow people to see me standing?”

“Is that possible? I am 75 years old now, but I feel bad about making people wait. However, I remain enthusiastic,” Prabowo concluded.
