Prabowo Asks Minister Maruarar to Build Housing Along Railway Tracks

President Prabowo Subianto telephoned the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, after visiting the area along the railway tracks in Kramat, Pasar Senen, Central Jakarta. Prabowo asked Maruarar to immediately build housing for the residents still living along those tracks.

According to Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Prabowo’s order was conveyed via a phone call. Prabowo called Maruarar in the evening after visiting Senen.

Through that phone call, Prabowo requested Maruarar to build residential houses and bathing, washing, and toilet facilities (MCK) for the residents still living along the railway tracks. “After conducting a walkabout to greet residents along the railway tracks in the Senen area, Central Jakarta, President Prabowo immediately ordered the Minister of Housing via telephone,” Teddy said in his statement on Friday, 27 March 2026.

Prabowo contacted Maruarar by phone because the minister was in Toba, North Sumatra. In addition to Maruarar, Prabowo also summoned other officials to discuss housing in the Senen railway track area, including Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo, PT Kereta Api Indonesia President Director Bobby Rasyidin, and Acting President Director of Perumnas Imelda Alini Pohan.

The officials, Teddy said, immediately followed up on Prabowo’s order. “Today, the team has already moved to prepare the construction process for new housing and MCK located not far from their original living area,” he stated.

The residents, Teddy conveyed, shared that they have been living along the tracks for decades with limited housing and roofing. “The President wants these residents to be provided with proper housing and MCK as soon as possible,” he said.

During his impromptu visit to the area along the tracks in Senen on Thursday, Prabowo promised to build housing for the residents living there. Prabowo expressed the same promise in a post on his Instagram account @prabowo.

In that post, Prabowo shared a video of his walkabout to the area along the tracks in Kramat, Pasar Senen. “Insyaallah, we will soon build decent housing for the community in that area quickly, and it is my determination to provide decent housing for the Indonesian people,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party.
