President Prabowo Subianto has asked German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to support the finalisation of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU CEPA). In a joint statement following their meeting at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, President Prabowo said that Indonesia and its European partners share a common interest in expanding economic cooperation amid increasingly complex global challenges. “We also hope Germany will continue to play an active role in the finalisation process of internal agreements in Europe, so that concrete benefits can soon be felt by businesses in both countries,” said President Prabowo. This aligns with the agreement between Indonesia and Germany to increase mutually beneficial trade and investment volumes. “We hope the Indonesia-EU CEPA agreement can reach a substantive conclusion,” President Prabowo stated. The programme aims to improve industrial competitiveness, modernise the manufacturing sector, and accelerate the development of trade and investment between the two countries. The Indonesian government is optimistic that strengthening partnerships with European countries, including Germany, will open wider market access, encourage quality investment, and support sustainable economic growth.
