Prabowo: As Long as Purbaya Still Smiles, the Economy is Fine

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto affirmed that the government works as one team in governing the country, including maintaining national economic stability.

This was conveyed during the inauguration of the operationalization of 1,061 Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives in Nganjuk Regency, Saturday (16/5/2026).

“All the ministers are one team. Because it cannot be done without a team,” said Prabowo.

He gave an example that government programs will not run if they do not receive support from various parties. Starting from the Ministries, Regional Heads, to the TNI and Polri apparatus.

“If the Minister of Home Affairs does not support it? The Regent does not support it? It’s not possible. If the village head does not support it? It’s not possible. If the Minister of Home Affairs, the Governor, the TNI do not support it? It’s not possible. If the National Police Chief does not support it? It’s not possible. This is teamwork. The whole team works,” he said.

On this occasion, Prabowo also mentioned Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, who he said is now increasingly popular among the public.

According to him, as long as Purbaya can still smile, it means that the Indonesian economic condition is fine. Even though the exchange rate of the Rupiah against the dollar is weakening.

“Purbaya is now very popular. This is Purbaya. As long as Purbaya can smile? Just be calm. There is no need to worry,” he said.

“You in the villages don’t use dollars. It’s those who like to go abroad who are worried,” Prabowo emphasized.
