Prabowo: As an TNI Alumni, I Cannot Bear to See the Institution So Loved by the People Tarnished

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has encouraged the TNI and Polri to rectify their respective institutions. Prabowo is unwilling if the institution where he once served becomes tarnished by the deeds of certain rogue officials. “The police must sort themselves out. As an TNI alumnus, the TNI must stand apart. I cannot bear my institution, which is so loved by the people, being tarnished by officials,” said Prabowo, during a dialogue with several figures and journalists in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, quoted from a video shared by the Presidential Secretariat on Sunday (22/3/2026). According to Prabowo, many naughty generals have already been dealt with firmly. When Prabowo served as Minister of Defence, he stressed that he succeeded in eradicating the corruption case related to Asabri. “The old ones reportedly couldn’t be touched because there were many generals involved; we handed it over to the Prosecutor’s Office. I wrote a letter requesting the Prosecutor’s Office to take action,” he continued. For Prabowo, good police and great soldiers are demands of the people, not the preferences of leaders. As President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo is committed to carrying out the duties entrusted to him by the people. “So if I take action, if I take steps, I am sure besides the reform committee but public opinion also desires that,” he added. Because, he acknowledged there are some rogue elements, but there are also hundreds of thousands of other personnel who work well. “I want to give each institution the opportunity to clean itself up. There are many things that people don’t trust, but in leadership sometimes that is the best path,” said Prabowo.
