Prabowo: Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution is the spirit of the founders' struggle

President Prabowo Subianto has reminded the nation that Articles 33 and 34 of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia represent the spirit of the founding fathers’ struggle to ensure the country’s natural resources are used for the people’s prosperity. Speaking at the 28th anniversary celebration of the National Awakening Party (PKB) at the Jakarta Convention Centre on Thursday evening, President Prabowo expressed appreciation for PKB’s support of Indonesia’s economic policy direction, which aligns with the founders’ ideals. ‘My belief in our country’s Constitution. My belief, especially in Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution and Article 34. Article 33 and Article 34 of the 1945 Constitution, that is my belief,’ said President Prabowo. The Head of State stressed that the economic ideas and direction guiding his leadership of Indonesia are not new, but rather an effort to realise what is already enshrined in the Constitution. This was in response to a statement by PKB Chairman Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, who referred to the party’s 28th anniversary theme, ‘A New Direction for the Constitutional Economic Mandate’, as ‘Prabowonomics’. ‘We have wanted independence for hundreds of years, for decades. We want independence so that all Indonesian people can live decently,’ he said. To achieve public welfare, efforts must be made to prevent the nation’s natural resources and wealth from being stolen by foreign parties. Meanwhile, Article 34 further regulates the state’s obligation to care for the poor and abandoned children, develop a social security system, and provide public health and general service facilities. On the occasion, the President also praised the results of the PKB ulama council’s meeting, which supported the government’s strategic steps to strengthen national sovereignty, build economic self-reliance, and return the direction of national development to the mandate of Pancasila and Article 33 of the Constitution. ‘This is extraordinary. This is an instruction again. But the instruction is in line with my conscience,’ Prabowo concluded.
