Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto arrived at Meninting Dam in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Friday afternoon to inaugurate five dams across five Indonesian regions simultaneously.

According to a live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Prabowo arrived at around 13:20 Western Indonesia Time aboard the Maung Garuda presidential vehicle. He also took a moment to emerge from the vehicle’s roof to greet the public.

Dressed in a cream safari suit, black trousers, and a blue cap, Prabowo then stepped down from his vehicle to greet and shake hands with residents who had crowded the inauguration site.

Afterwards, Prabowo proceeded to the tent where the simultaneous inauguration of the five dams was held. Several members of the Red and White Cabinet were seen attending alongside him.

Among those present were Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

The five dams, all designated national strategic projects (PSN), are Meninting Dam, the venue of the ceremony, Keureuto Dam and Rukoh Dam in Aceh, Jlantah Dam in Central Java, and Sidan Dam in Bali.

Meninting Dam, with an inundation area of approximately 46 hectares, is intended to raise the planting index in the West Nusa Tenggara region from 280 per cent to 300 per cent, including additional production of up to 420,000 tonnes of unhusked rice per planting season.

The inauguration of the five dams reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening water resource infrastructure, which plays a strategic role in supporting food security, providing raw water, controlling floods, and developing clean energy.

The presence of these dams is expected to bring significant benefits to the public, particularly in boosting agricultural productivity, ensuring water availability, and reinforcing the foundations of sustainable development.
