Prabowo Arrives in US, Set to Meet Trump to Discuss Trade Tariffs

President Prabowo Subianto has arrived in the United States to meet President Donald Trump. The two leaders are set to discuss economic cooperation, including trade tariff negotiations.

According to the Presidential Secretariat Bureau, the Garuda Indonesia-1 aircraft carrying Prabowo and his entourage landed at Andrews Military Base, Washington DC, on Tuesday (17/2/2026) at 11.55 local time.

At the foot of the aircraft steps, Prabowo was welcomed by Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo, Indonesian Defence Attaché in Washington Air Vice Marshal E. Wisoko Aribowo, and Maintenance Group Commander Colonel Gary Charland.

Following the arrival, Prabowo proceeded directly to his hotel in Washington DC. Upon arriving at the hotel, President Prabowo was presented with a bouquet of flowers by a young girl wearing traditional Indonesian attire.

In the lobby area and through to the lifts, dozens of Indonesian diaspora members and students, along with a number of staff and officials from the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC and their families, also turned out to welcome President Prabowo.

"Welcome to Washington DC, Mr President," said the diaspora members and students as they greeted Prabowo at the hotel.

The diaspora members and students took the opportunity to wear traditional costumes from various regions as well as batik tops. They also carried small Indonesian red-and-white flags to wave as President Prabowo walked past.

President Prabowo, whilst making his way through the lobby, shook hands with each of the diaspora members and students who had come to welcome him, expressing his gratitude.

"Thank you, thank you," said Prabowo.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that during this visit to the US, Prabowo is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Donald Trump.

The meeting will focus on strengthening Indonesia-United States relations and strategic cooperation across various economic sectors, including several trade negotiations and agreements.

"This visit forms part of President Prabowo's active direct diplomacy efforts to enhance economic supply chains and domestic industrial productivity," said Teddy.

In addition to Teddy, Prabowo was accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia on the flight to the US.
