Prabowo Arrives in Russia, Scheduled to Meet Putin
President Prabowo Subianto landed at Vnukovo-2 Airport in Moscow, Russia, on Monday, 13 April 2026, at 07:45 local time. This head-of-state visit to Russia is intended to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance strategic cooperation.
Prabowo’s arrival in Moscow was welcomed by several Russian state officials, including Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko and Director of the State Protocol Department Igor Bogdashev. The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Russian Federation, Jose Tavares, and the Indonesian Defence Attaché in Moscow, Air Vice Marshal TNI Budi Susilo, also greeted the Gerindra Party Chairman.
During this visit to Russia, Prabowo is scheduled to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to a statement from the Press, Media, and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, the meeting between Prabowo and Putin is expected to tighten the partnership between the two countries, especially in the energy sector and other priority areas.
“The Indonesian government views Russia as an important partner in supporting global economic stability and growth,” stated the Presidential Secretariat officially on Monday, 13 April 2026.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said that the meeting between Prabowo and Putin this time is very important, especially amid conflicts occurring in various regions, including the Middle East. “Amid the continuously changing global dynamics, this meeting is crucial,” he said.
Teddy stated that the two leaders will discuss several strategic issues, including strengthening national energy resilience through continued cooperation with the Russian government. “Continuing cooperation with the Russian government and ensuring a stable national energy supply, including oil availability,” he said.
In addition, Teddy said that Prabowo and Putin will also exchange views on the development of the global geopolitical situation. “Voicing Indonesia’s strategic position in maintaining global stability and peace,” he stated.
Previously, Prabowo departed from TNI AU Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, to fly to Russia on Sunday around 23:10 WIB. Several other officials accompanied Prabowo to Russia. Those joining Prabowo’s entourage include Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
This visit in April 2026 will be Prabowo’s third trip to Russia as president. The former Minister of Defence had previously visited Russia in June and December 2025. Prabowo met with Putin on both occasions.
