Prabowo arrives in Jembrana to launch 100 GWp solar power programme

President Prabowo Subianto arrived at the Java–Bali Sea Crossing Operation Monument in Jembrana Regency, Bali, on Tuesday afternoon for the launch and groundbreaking of the 100 GWp Solar Power Plant (PLTS) programme.

Based on monitoring of the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Prabowo arrived at the location at around 14.30 WIB, wearing a cream safari suit.

A number of state officials accompanied President Prabowo at the event, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and CEO of Danantara Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono.

Also present were Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Tandyo Budi Revita, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, President Director of PLN Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of Pertamina Simon Aloysius Mantiri, and Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster.

The launch of the 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) solar power plant at the Java–Bali Sea Crossing Operation Monument in Gilimanuk is part of the National Priority Work Programme for the Energy and Water Independence Cluster, which is directed at strengthening national energy independence and resilience and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

“The President has instructed that the construction of 100 GWp of solar power be accelerated and completed by 2029, with electricity cost efficiency estimated to reach Rp73.9 trillion per year. In 2026, the government is targeting the construction of 30 GWp of solar power as well as the retirement of 13 GW of diesel power plants,” said Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi in his statement on Tuesday.

The move was taken considering that Indonesia has a solar energy potential of around 3,294 GWp, while installed capacity up to April 2026 has only reached around 1.5 GWp.

The programme will be built in stages, namely phase I of 17 GWp, phase II of 18 GWp, and phase III of 30 GWp.

Throughout 2025, the government has built 15 new renewable energy plants, consisting of 12 solar power plants and three micro-hydro power plants worth Rp103.3 billion, serving 1,831 households and 131 public facilities.

In 2026, construction will continue at 39 integrated solar power plant locations in underdeveloped, frontier and outermost (3T) regions for 4,259 households worth Rp450.2 billion, and three micro-hydro locations for 464 households worth Rp50.4 billion.

The village electricity programme has also reached 1,403 locations in 36 provinces, with 220,845 underprivileged households receiving benefits from the New Electricity Installation Assistance scheme.

“The 100 GWp solar power programme is also projected to become a new engine of economic growth through investment in generation, batteries and networks, strengthening the domestic solar PV industry, and creating green jobs. The 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan is projected to create around 1.7 million jobs, more than 760,000 of which could potentially become green jobs,” said Prasetyo.

The government has ensured that the construction of the 100 GWp solar power plant will continue to be supervised in a gradual and measurable manner, in line with the commitment to realising an Indonesia that is more independent, resilient and competitive in the energy sector.
