Prabowo Arrives at 18th BRICS Summit, Warmly Welcomed by PM Modi
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the 18th BRICS Summit at the Bharat Mandapam building in New Delhi, India, on Saturday, 12 September 2026.
Prabowo’s presence in the forum of developing nations was marked by a warm welcome from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to footage from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Prabowo arrived at the venue in a state car.
Wearing a black suit and a traditional kopiah, Prabowo was directed towards the main building area to participate in the summit’s primary proceedings. Upon arriving at the reception area, he was personally greeted by Modi; the two leaders were seen shaking hands and embracing before exchanging greetings and posing for photographs.
This moment marked the opening of Prabowo’s participation in the BRICS forum, which brings together member state leaders to discuss various strategic agendas regarding multilateral cooperation. Indonesia’s presence at this BRICS summit is particularly significant as the nation holds full membership status. This position provides greater opportunities for Indonesia to strengthen cooperation with other developing nations while enhancing Jakarta’s role in multilateral geopolitics.
Earlier reports indicated that Prabowo arrived at the Air Force Station (AFS) Palam, New Delhi, on Friday, 11 September 2026, at approximately 22:00 local time. Upon arrival at the airport, he was received by India’s Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, alongside the Chargé d’Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi, Yudho Sasongko, the Indonesian Defence Attaché in India, Brigadier General (Mar) Burhanudin, the Commander of AFS Palam, Brigadier General Rishabh Mittal, and the Additional Secretary (South) of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Prashant Agrawal.
A guard of honour performed the welcoming ceremony, and Prabowo also received a cultural welcome through a traditional Indian dance performance beneath the aircraft stairs.
The Presidential Secretariat emphasised that Prabowo’s presence in the forum is more than just a diplomatic agenda, but a part of Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen its position and role in multilateral cooperation. “President Prabowo’s presence at the 18th BRICS Summit as a full member is part of Indonesia’s steps to strengthen its active role in multilateral cooperation,” the Presidential Secretariat stated in a written release on Saturday, 12 September 2026.
