Prabowo Approves Presidential Assistance Funds for Flyover Construction in Bekasi
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has stated that he has approved the use of presidential assistance funds to build a flyover in Bekasi, West Java. Prabowo made the statement while inspecting the site of the collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance train and the KRL Commuter Line at Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi City, on Tuesday (28/4/2026). The flyover will be constructed at a level crossing where a road intersects the railway line. Prabowo said he received the request for the flyover construction from the Bekasi City Government. This is because Bekasi City is known to be a densely populated area. On the other hand, there are many unguarded railway level crossings. The President then highlighted that there are 1,800 level crossings that are unguarded or not diverted via flyovers. According to him, the issue has persisted for decades and will be addressed during his administration. “I have ordered that we immediately fix all those crossings, whether by setting up guard posts or building flyovers; we will appoint the implementers,” he said. The Gerindra Party Chairman stated that, after calculations, building flyovers at 1,800 locations would require around Rp 4 trillion. Previously, the long-distance train Argo Bromo Anggrek collided with a KRL Commuter Line at Bekasi Station, Bekasi City. The KRL was halted because another KRL was stopped to pick up passengers on the same track. Based on preliminary information, the taxi is said to have broken down in the middle of the railway track at the level crossing.
