Prabowo Appreciates Thailand's Help in Repatriating Nearly 1,000 Indonesian Victims of Online Scams

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that Indonesia and Thailand are strengthening cooperation in the political and security fields, including efforts to eradicate online scam crimes. “Amidst increasing global uncertainty and the growing complexity of non-traditional security challenges, Indonesia and Thailand must continue to play a leadership role in strengthening ASEAN’s resilience and relevance,” Prabowo said during a joint press statement with Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (8/3/2026). “To that end, we have agreed to enhance political and security cooperation, particularly in handling various forms of transnational crime, including tackling online scams,” he added. Prabowo then expressed appreciation to the Thai government for assisting in the repatriation of Indonesian citizens ensnared in online scam crimes in the neighbouring country. He noted that nearly 1,000 Indonesian citizens were helped by Thailand. “On behalf of the Indonesian nation, I extend my appreciation and gratitude to the Government of Thailand for the close assistance and cooperation in facilitating the repatriation of Indonesian citizens who were victims of online scams. The number is quite substantial, approaching 1,000 Indonesian citizens,” he said. Prabowo viewed this assistance as evidence of the close relationship between Indonesia and Thailand, and he conveyed his highest appreciation to Prime Minister Charnvirakul.
