Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto conveyed his respect and appreciation to all Indonesian fishermen who are willing to struggle and risk their lives at sea to provide for their families.

This was stated by President Prabowo during his inspection of the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village (KNMP) Leato Selatan in Dumbo Raya Subdistrict, Gorontalo City, Gorontalo Province, on Saturday (9/5).

According to a press release from the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom) on Sunday, Prabowo acknowledged the arduous struggles of the fishermen who face significant risks at sea every day to support their families and provide food supplies for the community.

“I understand, I am a former soldier, I understand that fishermen face great risks. The sea is no joke; the weather can change, the currents can change,” said Prabowo in front of the fishermen and the general public present.

Prabowo described fishermen as important figures for the nation because they play a role in maintaining food security through fishery products that serve as a source of protein for the community. He also expressed his thanks.

“You risk your lives to find food for your families, for your community, for your nation. I thank you for that,” said the President.

“There must be no more fishermen who feel neglected. Fishermen are often forgotten by the smart people in Jakarta, who do not care about their fate. Now it has changed. The current government will pay attention to all fishermen and all farmers throughout Indonesia,” said Prabowo.

The President wants the lives of Indonesian fishermen to become increasingly better and more prosperous, and hopes that the fishermen can always smile because their incomes have improved.

“I want our fishermen to be prosperous. I want smiles every day because their incomes are good,” said President Prabowo, greeted with applause from the fishermen.
