Prabowo Apologises to Putin for Missing Russian National Day Due to Domestic Affairs

President Prabowo Subianto has conveyed his apologies to President Vladimir Putin of Russia for being unable to attend the commemoration of the National Day of the Russian Federation and the 35th ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in June 2026. He stated that he could not travel to Russia at that time due to domestic issues that required his immediate attention.

“First, allow me to extend my congratulations on the commemoration of the National Day of the Russian Federation on 12 June 2026, as well as the hosting of the 35th ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit on 18 June 2026,” said Prabowo while attending a luncheon with President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (3/9/2026).

“I offer my deepest apologies because I was unable to attend these important events due to domestic matters that I could not leave behind,” he added.

The President stated that his current presence in Vladivostok serves as a way to fulfil his commitments after being unable to attend the two aforementioned agendas. He remarked that he was essentially settling his debt regarding his previous absence. “But, I am paying my debt by being present in Vladivostok now,” he said.

On this occasion, Prabowo also expressed his gratitude to Putin for the warm welcome and hospitality provided during his visit to Vladivostok.
