He was welcomed by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono.

“I have arrived in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, for a meeting with my best friend, President Prabowo Subianto,” Anwar said in a statement cited in Kuala Lumpur.

The prime minister said he intends to use the dialogue to exchange perspectives on the increasingly alarming conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, as well as the risks it poses to both countries and to global and regional stability.

In a statement issued the previous day, Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Prime Minister Anwar was set to revisit the Indonesian capital at President Prabowo’s invitation for talks on the current geopolitical situation.

Malaysia considers it crucial to engage Indonesia in comprehensive, careful, and coordinated discussions to align positions and strengthen strategic cooperation in response to the situation, the ministry said.

The high-level meeting is expected to pave the way for intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions while ensuring sustainable and secure routes for international trade, which are vital to the welfare of both nations.

The Prabowo–Anwar meeting is also seen as an opportunity to reaffirm the role of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as a united regional bloc capable of facilitating collective measures to safeguard peace, maintain stability, and pursue economic resilience amid global uncertainties.

Prime Minister Anwar first signaled his plan for a Jakarta visit in a statement issued on Tuesday (March 24), noting that he and President Prabowo had agreed to hold talks soon to deepen bilateral ties and follow up on their phone conversation the previous day.

“During yesterday’s phone call with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, we exchanged views on various current issues, including the Iran–Israel conflict,” Anwar remarked.

Prabowo last hosted Anwar in Jakarta during an annual consultation on July 29 last year, which produced agreements on joint efforts to resolve bilateral issues and strengthen ASEAN’s role in maintaining regional stability.
