President Prabowo Subianto has revealed that Indonesia will soon have a national electric motorcycle as part of efforts to strengthen the domestic automotive industry and encourage the use of environmentally friendly vehicles. Speaking at a harvest event for the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) supporting the food security programme at Abdulrachman Saleh Air Force Base in Malang, East Java, on Friday, the President said the national electric motorcycle would be launched within a few weeks. “Soon we will have a national motorcycle. I will launch the national electric motorcycle in a few weeks,” Prabowo stated, as monitored via a Presidential Secretariat broadcast in Jakarta. The President expressed hope that the national electric motorcycle would be widely utilised by the public, including farmers, as an efficient and affordable means of transport. Furthermore, Prabowo said the government is targeting Indonesia’s ability to produce a national car, the work of the nation’s own children, as part of strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity. “We will have motorcycles made by Indonesian children. We will have cars made by Indonesian children,” he asserted. According to the President, the development of national vehicles is part of the government’s optimism in realising Indonesia as a developed and prosperous nation through enhancing national industrial capabilities. He further stressed that Indonesia has the resources and ability to build a competitive industry capable of producing strategic domestic products. “We are optimistic. We set our aspirations as high as the sky. Indonesia will become a prosperous country,” President Prabowo concluded.
