President Prabowo Subianto has formally signed a trade agreement with United States President Donald Trump. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya highlighted the importance of personal rapport between the two heads of state in reaching the deal.

"In inter-state negotiations, personal closeness is needed to achieve mutually beneficial agreements for both parties," Teddy said in a post on the Cabinet Secretariat's Instagram account on Friday (20/2/2026). He included a photograph of Prabowo and Trump in the post.

Beyond conducting formal diplomatic relations, Prabowo was said to have cultivated personal ties with world leaders. "President Prabowo fulfils his role as head of state and government through direct diplomacy and personal rapport with every head of state," he said.

Teddy further noted that the agreement signed between Indonesia and the United States represented a historic trade pact involving the direct participation of both heads of state. Prabowo, he said, was the only national leader to sign such an agreement in person.

"A trade agreement with the United States, one of the world's superpowers and strongest nations, has become a historic trade pact signed directly by both heads of state. Moreover, on that day more than 15 heads of state were also present, yet only Indonesia concluded a direct agreement," he said.

Teddy disclosed that the deal involved a lengthy process and various closed-door discussions. However, the government assured that the steps taken were oriented towards delivering the greatest possible benefit for the Indonesian people.

"Naturally, within the agreement there were closed discussions between both parties, the purpose of which was to deliver the greatest benefit to all the people of Indonesia," Teddy said.
