Prabowo and South Korean President Agree to Strengthen Cooperation in Economy, Defence, and AI
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia and South Korea have agreed on a special comprehensive strategic partnership.
According to Prabowo, the discussions between the two national leaders were productive and yielded results.
This agreement is expected to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
“The validation of our bilateral relations as a special comprehensive strategic partnership, along with the resolution of several key agreements, reflects a deep and binding shared vision between our two countries,” said Prabowo, following his meeting with the South Korean President at the Blue House in Seoul on Wednesday (1/4/2026), quoted from a press release by the Indonesian Communication Agency (Bakom).
The head of state also mentioned that Indonesia and South Korea share common interests due to their similar backgrounds.
“History shows that both countries have similarities, and we also share common interests. Both countries had to struggle hard to achieve independence,” he said.
On the same occasion, President Lee detailed several agreements between Indonesia and South Korea covering economic and innovation sectors, defence industry, and culture.
According to Lee, the content of this cooperation is based on a high level of trust and the close partnership that has been established between the two countries so far.
In the economic aspect, he said, South Korean companies will participate extensively in national strategic industries, which are expected to help Indonesia achieve the Golden Indonesia vision.
“And on this occasion, I also conveyed deep appreciation to President Prabowo for his attention to companies originating from South Korea,” he added.
In the defence industry sector, Indonesia and South Korea are said to strengthen cooperation related to shipyards so that both countries can become global maritime powers.
This cooperation, said Lee, is a continuation of the successful development of fighter aircraft that the two countries have previously undertaken.
This cooperation is expected to resolve various humanitarian issues through the strengthening of the AI ecosystem.
“President Prabowo and I share the view that the happiness and prosperity of the people are the top priorities in our respective governments,” he stated.
