Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia, this week. The meeting, planned for 3 September 2026, serves as a momentum to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two nations.

The Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, confirmed that President Prabowo’s presence at the economic forum is as a guest of honour. In addition to the bilateral meeting, both leaders are scheduled to be keynote speakers at the forum, which takes place from 1–4 September 2026 in Russia’s Far East.

“Of course, the bilateral meeting is expected to take place, but the final confirmation will be determined by the Russian presidency,” Ambassador Tolchenov stated in Jakarta on Tuesday (1/9). He added that this plan reflects the strong friendship between the two countries, noting that this would mark the fifth meeting between Prabowo and Putin within the last two years.

Ambassador Tolchenov expressed hope that the bilateral meeting could drive the realisation of cooperation agreements in various sectors into concrete actions. The Russian side seeks mutually beneficial outcomes for both Jakarta and Moscow through this high-level dialogue.

In addition to the President’s attendance, other Indonesian delegates are confirmed to participate actively in EEF 2026. Representatives from Aceh Province are scheduled to speak during a session on Asia-Pacific regional development, while the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is sending a large delegation to bolster discussions at the business level.

Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yury Ushakov had previously confirmed President Prabowo’s status as a guest of honour at the 11th EEF. Alongside Indonesia, the forum’s plenary sessions will be attended by several high-ranking officials from other nations, including Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Myanmar Vice President Nyo Saw, and Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang.
