Prabowo and Putin Agree on Strategic Cooperation: Energy, Industry to Space
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow did not only discuss geopolitics but also produced several concrete agreements for strategic cooperation in various sectors.
During the nearly five-hour meeting, the two countries agreed to strengthen long-term collaboration, ranging from energy, industry, to education and technology.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that cooperation in the energy sector was one of the main outcomes of the meeting, particularly to support national energy resilience.
“Several points were agreed upon, including long-term cooperation in the energy and mineral resources sector, encompassing oil and gas energy resilience and downstreaming,” said Teddy in a statement from the Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
This cooperation covers the development of oil and natural gas, as well as strengthening the downstreaming of natural resources to increase added value domestically.
The focus is directed towards building domestic industries to strengthen the national manufacturing base.
“The sustainability of several cooperations in the fields of education, research and technology, agriculture, and investment in various sectors, especially industrial development in Indonesia,” he added.
This step is expected to encourage technology transfer while increasing national production capacity.
Cooperation also encompasses the fields of education and technology research, which are considered important for supporting human resource development.
In the agricultural sector, the two countries are opening opportunities for collaboration to increase productivity and food resilience.
Russian President Vladimir Putin even offered broader cooperation, including in the military and space sectors.
“We have often discussed opportunities to develop cooperation in those fields. Among others, we talked about cooperation in the energy sector, in the space sector, also in the agricultural sector, in the industrial income sector, as well as in the pharmaceutical sector,” said Putin.
He added that Russia is also giving significant attention to strengthening military cooperation, including in the field of education.
“We attach great importance to developing cooperation in the military field, including in the field of education,” he continued.
