Prabowo and PM Narendra Modi Arrive at Prambanan Temple
President Prabowo Subianto arrived at Yogyakarta International Airport, Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on Wednesday (8/7). His visit to Yogyakarta is part of a joint agenda with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the Prambanan Temple Complex.
According to a press release from the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo was welcomed by several regional officials upon arrival at the airport. He then proceeded to the reception area to await the arrival of PM Modi, who was scheduled to land at the same airport.
Shortly thereafter, PM Modi arrived at Yogyakarta International Airport and was personally greeted by Prabowo. The two leaders were seen shaking hands and greeting each other warmly before proceeding with their scheduled activities in Yogyakarta.
From Yogyakarta International Airport, Prabowo and Modi departed via helicopter to the Adisucipto Air Force Base in Sleman Regency. This journey is part of PM Modi’s state visit to Indonesia, which underscores the close historical and cultural ties between Indonesia and India.
Upon arriving at Adisucipto Air Force Base, the two leaders continued their journey to the Prambanan Temple Complex in Sleman Regency. At the World Heritage site, Prabowo and Modi were scheduled to inspect several points within the temple area.
In addition to the inspection, both leaders will witness the signing of a cooperation plaque for the conservation of Indonesian-Indian cultural heritage for Prambanan Temple. This agenda serves as a symbol of strengthening cultural collaboration between Indonesia and India, which has existed for centuries.
The visit to Prambanan Temple is part of a series of events during PM Modi’s state visit to Indonesia. Through this agenda, both nations are not only reinforcing bilateral relations in politics, economy, and strategy but also affirming the importance of cultural cooperation as a bridge for friendship between Indonesia and India.
President Prabowo Subianto emphasised that Indonesia and India share strong historical ties and commonalities as two of the largest democracies in the world. PM Modi’s visit to Prambanan also involves the signing of several strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Indonesia regarding restoration cooperation.
Khairul Fahmi, an observer from the Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISESS), highlighted the warm moment between President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the ceremony, Prabowo ascended the saluting base, where the Indian national anthem was played accompanied by a 21-gun salute. Five cooperation documents have been agreed upon by both nations.
